At 9:19 am, the BSE Sensex was up 80.53 points, or 0.10%, at 80,790, while the Nifty50 rose 15 points to 24,664
From the Sensex pack, Bharti Airtel, Adani Ports, BEL, Maruti, and Power Grid opened higher, while Sun Pharma, Infosys, Eternal, and Tech Mahindra traded lower.
Meanwhile, the RBI is widely expected to keep rates unchanged in its policy decision at 10:00 a.m. IST, after a surprise 50-basis-point cut in June and a shift to a “neutral” stance.
While the RBI had earlier indicated limited room for further easing, hopes for a growth-supportive and dovish tone have grown following the U.S.’s proposed 25% tariffs on Indian goods.
Nifty Pharma and Healthcare indices fell over 1% each in the early trade after US President Donald Trump said tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals could rise to as high as 250%. “We’ll be putting an initially small tariff on pharmaceuticals, but in one year, one-and-a-half years, maximum, it’s going to go to 150% and then 250%, because we want pharmaceuticals made in our country,” Trump said.
