Sensex begins Diwali Muhurat trading on a sweet note with over 400 point rise

Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened higher in the special Muhurat trading session on Diwali, lifted by upbeat investor sentiment as markets ushered in the new Hindu calendar year, Samvat 2081.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was up around 400 points of 0.5%, while the broader Nifty50 rose 120 points or 0.5%.

Buying was seen in auto stocks as the companies released their monthly sales numbers. Mahindra and Mahindra was up around 3%, while Tata Motors gained over 1%. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki was up about 0.6%.

Among the Sensex pack, almost all the stocks were trading higher, barring Power Grid, which was down marginally at -0.08%.

The broader market too started the first day of trading in the new Hindu calendar on a strong note, with the Nifty smallcap 100 index and Nifty Midcap 100 surging nearly 1% each.


Sectorally, auto and PSU banks led the gains with the Nifty auto index jumping 1% and the Nifty PSU Bank index rose 1%. All the sectors are trading in green during the special session held by the exchanges.
