Real Madrid legend Marcelo spoke to La Revuelta in a recent interview about his career. He spoke about Real Madrid for a fair bit, and talked about his fandom now that he has retired as a football player. Marcelo simply said: “I am a Real Madrid fan until the end.”
Marcelo spoke about Real Madrid’s first Champions League in over 12 years when they won the Decima. He talked about how it felt to see Sergio Ramos’ goal that took the game to extra time. He said: “I was on the pitch, I saw Sergio’s goal in slow motion. This moment was a double joy because I saw many of Atletico pop champagne and unpack the Champions shirts. This was a motivation. They were opening the champagne when Sergio scored at 93.”
He was asked about who he thinks the best player in football history is, and his reply was a bit broader than what people would have expected. He said: “I don’t think there’s one. We’re lucky to have played in the same era of Cristiano and Messi. I don’t like comparisons but we have to say they were both incredible and I’ve been lucky to be part of this. When Messi scored two goals Cristiano had to score three, and then Messi wanted to score four.
“Many people want to compare but forget to enjoy.”
